Madrid Beyond the Guide Book

I’m writing this straight after wrapping up work on Lonely Planet’s new series of guidebooks to Madrid. It’s been lots of hard work but I’ve enjoyed every minute. Who wouldn’t want to be paid to pursue their passion?

Now, as I prepare to spend the summer in Paris, I’m salivating at the thought of a well-earned freshly baked croissant. But before I leave, I wanted to share this personal guide to Madrid, highlighting the places that didn’t make it into the official guidebook. All these spots are just that little bit off the beaten path and yet still well worth taking the time to discover.

Among my favourites are the stunning Cathedral of Justo Gallego, Madrid’s Chinatown and a fabulous modern art gallery in Carabanchel. While a few can only be reached by bus, most places can easily be reached by metro. I hope this little guide liberates you, allowing you to stray that little bit further adding an extra dash of adventure to your holiday in Madrid.

P.S. For more historical background, the guide if full of links to the relevant articles in my blog. Or better yet, hire me as a guide to take you around the city! I’ll be back from Paris this autumn, eager to share my insights with visitors!
